My Infrared Salt Sauna Experience at Welmä Studios

Have you ever heard of salt therapy? If you haven't, you're not alone. Before interviewing Susan Homa, the owner and creator of Welmä Studios, I'd never heard of salt therapy.

After learning about its benefits though, I couldn't wait to try it out for myself.

Before I tell you about my experience, I'd love to share some of the health benefits that I learned about with you.

The Health Benefits of Infrared Salt Saunas

The health benefits of infrared salt saunas include better respiratory health, mood support and regulation, and so much more.

Welmä Studios just so happens to be the only studio in all of Quebec that has a Salt Sauna.

You also have the option of adding red light therapy as well as aromatherapy to the experience.

Some of the combined benefits of this service include:

  • Better respiratory health

  • Increased Collagen Production

  • Improved Skin Health (great for eczema, psoriasis, and more)

  • Stress Reduction

  • Mood support and regulation

  • and more

My Infrared Salt Sauna Experience

Now that you know about some of the health benefits that Infrared Salt saunas provide, let's dive into my experience.

When I first arrived at the studio, Susan greeted me and briefly explained what to expect during my session.

After that, I changed into my bathing suit (I brought a couple of options with me because it had been a while since I'd put one on haha), and then I headed over to the sauna.

Before stepping in, I felt a little bit of fear come up because I was worried that it was going to be too hot. Don't get me wrong, I love being warm, but I'd had sauna experiences in the past where it was so hot that I could hardly breathe. So I was understandably worried about experiencing that again.

Thankfully, the temperature was perfect. I literally felt like I was sitting on a beach somewhere soaking up the sun.

Red Light Therapy

For the first 10 minutes of the session, I got to experience the red light tower. I'd never experienced red light therapy before and it was kind of wild.

When it first started up I had my eyes closed, and all I could see was the colour red (obviously because there was a red light pointed straight at me haha).

But then, after I don't know how long, I started to see the colour white instead of red. I opened my eyes for a minute to see if the colour had either changed or had gone off, but to my surprise, it hadn't.

So I just closed my eyes and kept soaking up all of the benefits. When the timer went off, the red light did too. At first, I was so confused because the colour I was seeing shifted from white to blue. So I opened my eyes again to see what was going on.

The red light was off, so I looked up and around to see what was making me see the colour blue when my eyes were closed. To my surprise though, there was nothing blue to be found. I spoke to Susan about it afterward, but apparently, that was just a me thing haha.

Salt Therapy

After the red light shut off I felt that I could notice the salt therapy a bit more. Even though the sauna was warm, I felt as if a gentle halo of cool air was rapping itself gently around my shoulders.

I felt as though I could breathe so deeply - so much more than I usually do.

I also noticed that the muscle pain and tension I came into the sauna with, had completely disappeared.

The more my body continued to deepen into a state of relaxation, the more I wished that I'd brought a pillow with me so that I could take a nap haha.

Music Choice

Another part of the experience that I really enjoyed was the music. Before going into the sauna, Susan asked me whether I'd prefer to have spa music playing or a playlist that would allow me to have more of a guided journey.

Your girl's all about a good journey, so obviously I chose the second option lol

And I'm really glad I did because it made the sauna session that much cooler. Every single song that came on felt like it led me through a completely new set of emotions within myself.

There was one song in particular that was talking about being grateful for the sun and the rain and it just felt so magical while I was soaking up the heat of the sauna.

The very last song of the playlist couldn't have been more perfect. It was Unstoppable by Sia. When I finally left the Sauna, I felt exactly that.

What else do you need to know?

The only other thing I want to share with you is how much this experience costs and how you can book a session to try it out for yourself.

The price is $35 for a half-hour session without the red light tower and $45 with the red light tower which stays on for the first 10 minutes of your session.
