Halotherapy at Welmä Studios

Halotherapy, otherwise known as salt therapy, involves breathing in air that contains tiny salt particles.

Although this form of therapy isn't well known in Montreal yet, halotherapy has been shown to help improve the health of your respiratory system, the health and appearance of your skin, and it may also help to support your mood due to the negative ions that are released into their air.

From the moment you walk into Welmä studios, you can literally feel the difference in the quality of the air.

I felt lighter and as if I could think more clearly. I also felt calmer and yet somehow more energized at the same time.

On top of that, the studio itself is one of the most beautiful spaces that I've ever seen. Combining accents of wood, salt, and softly textured fabrics, to me, Welmä Studios is what I'd imagine a high end villa in Bali would look like.

The story of Welmä Studios

Just like every person has a story, so too does every space. What I love more than anything, is when a space and someone's story come together to make something new.

Welmä studios was created by Susan Homa. An interior designer and real estate agent by trade who transitioned into the health and wellness space.

Initially her journey into the wellness space started as a way of refilling her own cup and now she's on a mission to help others to do the same.

From the second you walk up the stairs you can see just how much intention went into choosing every single detail of the space.

In our interview together, Susan told me that the vision for Welma studios came to her in what felt like an instant.

She knew that she needed to create this space.

A heart centred space, in which people could balance their energy, breathe more deeply, and reconnect to their true selves.

Having attended one of the classes that was given there, I can tell you first hand, that she's created all of that and so much more.

What makes Welmä Studios Unique?

Although there are other spaces within Montreal where you can experience Halotherapy, Welmä Studios is the only space in Montreal that combines the healing properties of Salt Therapy alongside other healing modalities.

Some of which include:

  • Yoga

  • Sound Healing

  • Guided Meditations

  • Breathwork

  • Reiki

  • Qigong

  • Art Therapy

  • Crystal Lithotherapy

  • Aromatherapy

  • and more

Each month the studio and all of the practitioners that work there, decide upon one topic and or theme that they'll be addressing.

Recent themes have included the opening of the heart and throat chakras.

On top of that, they also have 6 PEMF therapy mats which you can rent to use in combination with Halotherapy or one of the classes I've listed above.

If you aren't already familiar with PEMF therapy some of the health benefits include:

  • Slows or stops the release of pain and inflammatory mediators

  • Improves blood flow and re-establishes normal cell interaction

  • Improves energy levels

  • Reduces tissue recovery time

  • and more

The Only Salt Sauna in Quebec

Welmä Studios also happens to be the only place in all of Quebec that has a Salt Sauna.

This sauna is unique because it combines all of the benefits of Halotherapy with the benefits of an infrared sauna. You also have the option of adding red light therapy as well as aromatherapy to the experience.

Some of the combined benefits of this service include:

  • Better respiratory health

  • Increased Collagen Production

  • Improved Skin Health (great for eczema, psoriasis, and more)

  • Stress Reduction

  • Mood regulation

Welmä studios also offers one of a kind workshops around a variety of topics such as manifestation, abundance, self connection, and more.

Additional Research

During my interview with Susan, she told me a story about these salt miners that had experienced better health due to being exposed to a more rustic version of Halotherapy.

So I decided to do a little bit of digging to learn more about it.

During my research, I learned that in the 1800's there were a group of salt miners in Poland that very rarely had colds or coughed which would have been common in other mining circumstances.

They discovered that it was thanks to the salt particles in the air that helped their lungs to remain clear of infection as well as allergens.

With time, the caves became a tourist attraction bringing people from all over the world that suffered from respiratory issues.

I don't know about you, but I think that that's pretty incredible.

The Welmä Shop

The last piece of Welmä that I want to share with you, is the carefully curated wellness shop that can be found tucked right next to the main entrance of the studio. In the shop, you'll find essential oils, natural cosmetics, journals, and more that can support you on your wellness journey.

I took a look at everything while I was there, and let me just say that it was very hard to not buy it all haha.

Where is Welmä Studios Located?
